<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The combined effects of prednisolone and vitamin D on the rat adrenal histological structure was studied. The animals were administered with 5 mg/kg of either saline, or prednisolone intragastrically, daily over 3 weeks, or prednisolone in combination with vitamin D (at a dose of 800 IU/kg). The adrenals were fixed in a mixture of formalin-ethanol-acetic acid, embedded in paraffin and serial sections were made which were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. It was found that although vitamin D was beneficial for normalization of proliferation and apoptosis of adrenal cortical cells changed under the exposure to prednisolone, it did not contribute to recovering of the gland size. Vitamin D in combination with prednisolone contributed to storing of lipofuscin in the reticular layer of the adrenal cortex. </p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>крысы</kwd><kwd>кора надпочечниковых желез</kwd><kwd>преднизолон</kwd><kwd>витамин D</kwd><kwd>митоз</kwd><kwd>апоптоз</kwd><kwd>липофусцин</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>rats</kwd><kwd>adrenal cortex</kwd><kwd>prednisolone</kwd><kwd>vitamin D</kwd><kwd>mitosis</kwd><kwd>apoptosis</kwd><kwd>lipofuscin</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Праца выканана ў межах праекта 5.11 «Аптымізацыя біядаступнасці вітаміна D пры недастатковасці вiтаміна i выкарыстанні розных кальцый-у- трымліваючых субстанцый» ДПНД «Хімічныя тэхналогіі i матэрыялы».</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="en">This work was performed as a part of the project 5.11 “Optimization of bioavailability of vitamin D under its deficiency and by the use of different calcium containing substances” of SPSR “Chemical technologies and materials”.</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Wolf, G.
